Rick Fright PhD, Executive Director, VP R&D
Rick Fright was born and educated in Canterbury, and attended the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, obtaining a BE (Electrical) in 1980 and a PhD in 1984 under the supervision of the late Professor Bates. Rick joined the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering at Christchurch Hospital in 1987. A Wellcome Fellowship at University College London from 1989-1991 enabled him to specialise in 3D medical imaging and computer systems for surgery planning and the automated production of custom implants, prior to co-establishing ARANZ in 1995 and ARANZ Medical in 2005.
Bruce McCallum PhD, Executive Director, VP R&D
Bruce McCallum gained a BE (Electrical, Hons 1) in 1983 from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, followed by a PhD in 1990 under the supervision of the late Professor Bates. Bruce then worked as a consultant for the Industrial Development Division of the DSIR, before being awarded the NZ Royal Society Endeavour Fellowship for postdoctoral research in Britain. This he undertook in the Microstructural Physics Group, Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University, UK, researching the theory and application of super-resolution imaging in electron microscopy, from 1991 to 1994. In 1995, Bruce returned to NZ to co-establish ARANZ and more recently ARANZ Medical.
Mark Nixon MB ChB, CMO, Clinical Scientist
Mark Nixon studied physics and mathematics at the University of Canterbury (BSc), and completed his medical training at the University of Otago (MB ChB). He also studied at University College London, UK, submitting a thesis entitled Laser Scanning for Three-Dimensional Imaging of the Body Surface (1995). Mark is also a co-founder of ARANZ and ARANZ Medical. With this combination of skills Mark has been largely responsible for ARANZ’s product initiatives in the medical areas including custom prosthetics, radiation therapy immobilization masks and wound assessment.
Bruce Davey PhD, CEO
Bruce Davey gained a BE (Electrical, Hons 1) and PhD degrees from the University of Canterbury in 1985 and 1989 respectively. Following research positions in the Departments of Medicine, Neurosurgery and Biomedical Engineering at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, he joined Cedara Software Corp., Toronto, Canada and over the 13 years with the company held increasingly senior engineering and subsequently marketing positions. Bruce joined ARANZ in early 2006 with responsibilities for the marketing and sales for the ARANZ Group of companies.
